Hola!
How is everyone doing? I’m doing super
great! My letter from you said, “can you believe you are coming up on year?” No,
I cant! And sad news I officially have less then 6 months left. My departure
date is for April 22, 2014. Yah, you can freak out, cause I am.
This week was awesome. We set our goals
higher then usual and I would say we met them. Something that I have learned in
the mission is that no baptism comes easy; our investigators always have to
pass through something before making it to the water.
Magdalena was baptized this Saturday; as
we taught her she had no set backs and I kept thinking to myself, “when is her
trial going to come?” I’m not sure it the trial was for her or if it was for
us. On Thursday we went to the lesson to prep her for her interview and she wasn’t
home, neither was her now husband. Her mother in law said they had left to so
Daniel could talk to her parents before they got married. Hermana Raya and I
about died. We tried to call and call, but their phone was out of reach.
Finally we called them and they said they would be back on Friday night. They
called us Friday in the morning to tell us they would not be back till Saturday
morning! We knew the area they had gone to was super far away and if they missed
the bus they wouldn’t make it on time. So we decided to do what any good
missionary would do and constantly call them to see where they were. Which included
calling them at 3:30 in the morning to make sure they caught the bus. We knew
there was nothing we could do so we had to just trust that if this baptism was
God’s will that everything would be fine. All I did was pray that the bus
driver would drive super fast so they would get here on time. They got here
about 2 hours early. Prayer works. Also don’t trust Guatemalan bus drivers,
they’re loco. Their wedding and baptism went smoothly
and was really special.
Bueno. So then comes Sunday morning and
we were really blessed to have a lot of investigators some to church (9). So we
were busy making sure they all got there in time. We trusted that Magdalena
would come on time. Church was about to start when I look at Hermana Raya and
said “where is Magdalena?” We called them and they said they were on their way
and they would be there in 15 min. Noo! We were outside the chapel we decided
to get a member to come with us to pick her up and race back to the chapel. But
everyone was in the chapel waiting for the meeting to start. One of the
Hermanos drove past us and I swear this was like a movie. We ran after him and
started to explain the situation. He just looked at us and said “get in.” He
sped off and called Magdalena. They hadn’t even left the house yet. I swear I’m
gonna have a heart attack one day. We found them in the street, raced back to
the church. And just as we walked in the bishop announced that they were going
to confirm Magdalena. Ahhh.
As humans we aren’t perfect and we fail
and don’t plan for everything. But God really does provide. These are his
children who are repenting of their sins and coming unto Him. And he will make
sure that it happens. This gospel is real. God is real, Christ is his Son. And Miracles
do happen.
Well needless to say, I’m realizing that
my mission will soon be coming to a close. Yes I have about 6 months left. But
time flies by so fast in the mission that if you don’t stop and look at
yourself and your progress, it’s too late. I have decided the best goals in the
mission are to lose yourself. Not to necessarily say “I’m going to memorize
these scriptures and read the Book of Mormon so many times.” But to really
focus on the people you are serving. But I remember before the mission that
someone asked me why I wanted to serve a mission. There are many reasons but one
of them was to become more like my Savior. And that is something that I really
am trying to focus on. I found this video on the church website and I really
like it.

There are many of these attributes that
I lack. But I think being courageous and humble are two that I really want to
focus on. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and because of Him we will all
live again. And that he wants us to be like Him.
Love you lots,
Hermana Davies
