Hey,
Got back late from Xela so
my letter won’t be the most inspirational.
This week was good. We did
divisions twice, which always makes things a little crazy. But they are really
a good thing. I learn so much when we do them.
This week I was reminded
how horrible gossip is. I didn’t realize how gossipy the mission was until I
got here. I think part of it is what are missionaries gonna talk about when
they get together. Movies? Sports? No, they talk about each other. I
really like President Uchtdorf's advice about gossip. Stop it. He also says it’s
gossip, even if it’s true.
Yesterday we went to visit
Daniel (he is 11) and his mom. Daniel lives way out in the boonies. And usually
when we get there we find Daniel yelling at someone who lives on another hill.
This kid doesn’t need a phone. He and his friends just yell at each other from their
houses to communicate. He kept yelling at his friend in Kiche. So we started
yelling the only words we know in Kiche. I asked his mom how to say something
in Kiche and it turns out I yelled “Sit down on your bum.” But not the most
appropriate way to say bum. Ooops :)
We went to the Women’s
Conference on Saturday. And it was so good. I felt the sprit so strong. In the
video where they sang “I am a child of God” there were woman from Guatemala in
the video. But I especially liked the video showing girls from Primary to
Relief Society. (Readers: Primary is the children’s organization in the church
and Relief Society is the women’s organization.) It was clear that the temple
was a central part in their lives. I felt so strongly that if the temple and
Christ are at the center of everything I do, then I will always be happy and so
will my family.
I’m so grateful to be a
member of the church to know that this life is not the end. But that there is
so much waiting for us after. And that we have such great potential in this
life and in the next. Knowing the Plan of Salvation changes the way you live
your life. Because you don’t live for the moment but you live for the
eternities.
Have a great week,
Hermana Davies
