Hola everyone!
I hope you all had a good week. Looks like you had fun with
the Cochrans. I had an amazing week. Crazy but amazing. On Saturday we had the
wedding for Lucia and Estuardo. It turned out really nice. We used the stake
center, which was really nice because in comparison with most of the buildings
here, the LDS chapels are super classy. We had the ceremony. A Hermana in our
ward is a lawyer and she performed the ceremony, then we prepared a lunch. We
made pork loin with roasted taters, which was served with rice, and salad. The
pork loin turned out super delish. We made it with rosemary, which a member had
in her garden (which is another story, see below). We also made red velvet cake,
which turned out super good. Hermana Raya decorated. It turned out nice but the
frosting wasn’t very workable, which I attribute to using margarine not butter.
But what can you do, butter here is super expensive.
After the wedding we came back to our area and Lucia, Estuardo,
Marsela and Succi were baptized. It was amazing. Last year in our mission in September
there were only 23 baptisms. Which everyone blamed on the fair and Independence
Day. But Hermana Raya and I didn’t want that to be an excuse for us. We fasted
and prayed really hard that the fair wouldn’t affect the work. And it didn’t. Instead
we saw miracles happen every day. How every one of these baptisms happened was
truly a miracle. That Lucia and Estuardo decided to be married, that we
contacted Marsela’s house, and that Succi decided to go against her family’s
wishes. I am so grateful to have been a part of their conversion. It has been an
amazing month. And good news, I don’t have cambios! Which means I should be in
this zone for about one year! Crazy. But it doesn’t bother me because I love
this area, and I love being so close to the temple.
Remember the Shayla? I told you about her last week, she
gave us a ride and seemed really interested about the church. Well we finally
met with her last night. And she and her husband are so prepared. She has had
so many good examples of members in her life. And has always wondered what
makes them so happy and so blessed. She is passing though some hard times right
now. And wonders why she only has momentary happiness. We shared with her and her
husband that in the gospel one can find eternal happiness. She said that this
desire to talk to us is more than curiosity that she really wants to know what
we have. One interesting thing that she said she has wondered why no one has
ever invited her to church. I found that really interesting, that she has
always admired members but they have never reached out to her.
I hope you can find little ways to share the gospel. I know
it can be scary and you may think that you will lose your friends. But their
are people just waiting to hear this message. And if you open your mouth and
share the gospel the thing that brings you so much happiness and joy, you will
help find those people who have been prepared by the Lord.
Love you lots,
Hermana Davies
PS I guess I should tell the story about the rosemary. On
Friday we went to ask Hermana Rodas if she would give us some of her rosemary.
She wasn’t home so we went to her daughter’s house to see if she was there or
if she knew where her mother was. Her daughter called her and she said she
would be home in an hour. Her daughter told us that we could open the gate and
pick what was in front. We asked her if she was sure and she assured us that it
wasn’t a problem. We joked about what we would do if her brother or her dad happened
to come upon us in their house and if they did we would just say Gabby told us
we could come in. So we walked back to the house and on our way a puppy
followed us. This sister has 3 crazy dogs in her patio so we decided that I
would slip though the gate and Hermana Raya would make sure none of the dogs
escaped. What we didn’t plan on was the puppy also slipping though the gate.
When I made it though the gate and started to pick the rosemary I realized the
puppy was also in and was eating the dogs’ food. Then Hermana looked at me and
said “I hear a car.” I stuffed the rosemary back in the dirt and tried to get
the dog out of the patio but he was so intent on eating the food. The car
started to pull up to the house when I decided it was better to just take the
bowl away from the dog but the dog followed the bowl and pulled on it that the
food went flying. The next thing I know is that Hermana Rodas is staring at us,
her patio is covered in dog food, one of her dogs is on the loose and there is
a stray puppy in her patio. All I said was “Gabby said we could pick your
rosemary!”
