Buenos Dias!
Well Sharon and Michelle got baptized on Saturday it was
amazing! It was sad their dad didn’t know about it. But it was really amazing
to see them be baptized, the spirit was so strong.
That was most of our focus for the week so now we are kind
of like, now what? But yesterday we were hugely blessed! About two weeks ago we
were talking to some members in the street. A woman came by and asked if they
had seen her niece, she hadn’t come home in a couple of days and the police
were looking for her. We asked this member where the lady lived so we could go
visit her later in the week and teach her and the girl’s mom. On Thursday we
went to the house and talked to the aunt and the mom, and it turns about the
girl had been drugged and all of this crazy stuff. We set up an activity for
the next day to met the daughter Jackie. On Friday we had an activity with
Jackie and some girls from the branch. We watched El Mano de el Maestro and
talked about our worth in God’s eyes. Then we did facial scrubs with sugar and honey,
which the girls loved. Then Jackie went to mutual with the other girls. Here
comes the crazy part.... on the way to church yesterday Jackie asked “so how
old do you have to be to be baptized?” What!! We told her 8…she’s 13 and then
she said she wanted to be baptized. On the way home from church she asked how
long she had to wait to be baptized. I thought to myself, “girl, 2 weeks!”
The mission really is amazing! I am so grateful to have
helped Sharon and Michelle be baptized. There really is no greater joy then
helping someone come unto Christ and be baptized. I know that baptism in just
the first step in our journey and that God has blessings waiting for us if we
are true to the end.
Oh, I should tell you I am not in a trio! Whoo! This week we
helped a member cut her dog’s hair. Ahh this dog was so ugly before…she had
dreads. It took two days to cut this dog’s hair. But I must say she looks a
thousand times better. The elders said she was ugly, but she is just an ugly
dog so what can you do? The best part is these members brought their dog to the
baptism on Saturday. Only in Guate do you have dog running about in the church.
Love you all and miss you!

5 questions – Clothing
1. We really liked the pictures of you in native dress. How
often do local women wear the native dress?
All the time. It’s really normal to see the woman dressed in
corte.
2. Is there a men's equivalent?
Not really, in some places in Guate, but nowhere I have
been. So I’m not really sure what it looks like.
3. Where do most people buy their clothing?
Well they have this amazing thing here called Pacas. So what
I think happens is Goodwill or the DI (I have seen a lot of stuff from Utah)
sells the clothes they can’t sell. The clothes come all packed together in a
big block tied together by string. Then people go to the warehouse and buy the
paca and then they sell it in their store that is called a Paca. There is also
a store called MegaPaca. Which is more amazing because they have really nice
stuff there. I think target and Wal-Mart sell them old clothes because I
have seen a lot of stuff there with the tags still on the clothes.
4. How do most people do their laundry?
By hand in the pila. It’s a big sink that has a washboard
built in.
5. How do you do your laundry?
Our landlady lets us use her laundry machine. So I use that
about every two weeks, but I wash my whites by hand in the pila. They turn out
a lot brighter that way.
