Things are looking up in Jardines

Hey!

I don’t have lots of time today so I will make my email really quick. This week was a little tough. We decided to drop two of our investigators. They are the sons of a less active member. This week and last week we were not able to teach them anything or enter their house. We realized the mom really has no serious intentions of having her kids baptized. We had to let them go to focus on people who really wanted to hear the gospel.

Well, I was feeling pretty down. I pretty much had to accept that no one would be baptized this month. Which is never a good feeling because you work hard and you don’t see the fruits of your labors.

But we had some miracles yesterday. A member invited a friend to church and this man came all by himself. His name is Mario; he stayed for all 3 hours and has asked good questions in Sunday School. Also we were able to teach a sister of a less active member. She was amazing. She already loves the church.

This week we were also able to have a great lesson with Sulma. We watched “The Testaments” with her. We asked her how she felt when Christ came to the Americas. She said she felt like crying. Which you know she means she felt the spirit. I am so excited for her she has told us she knows the Book of Mormon is true. The one thing is that she hasn’t come to church. I think she sees going to church as a step of leaving the Catholic church behind. But I think she will get there.

Things are looking up in Jardines. We are finally teaching people who want to listen! I love the gospel and I love this work. Life is not always easy but when we search for the Lord’s hand in our lives we will be filled with joy and peace.

Love you all!

5 Questions – Technology in Guatemala

- What percentage of people in Guatemala use cell phones? What about home phones?
Everyone. Home phones aren’t really common but some people have them

- How often do you see smart phones?
Don’t really see iPhones but lots of young people have phones that connect to the internet.

- How often do you see people with computers (desk tops, laptops or computer notebooks) at home?
Never see laptops. Home computers are rare. The only people who have computers are people with lots of money. Most people go to Internet cafes.

- Do most people have video game systems?
Not really. A couple of families have a Playstation.
- What about LDS missionaries….do you all have a cell phone or something to help you find addresses?
The Hermanas and zone and district leaders have cell phones. The rest of the Elders have house phones. And yes, they carry them around in their backpacks. It’s hilarious to see them pull it out on the street. Finding an address? Good luck cause nobody knows the streets!
