It rains hard in Guatemala

26 August 2013

Hola!

How is everybody? Yes I know my spelling is fantastic but it is what one sacrifices to become fluent in Spanish or should I say Espanol. Haha, just kidding. Brad went to the temple this week! Ahh so exciting! I thought about him all weekend. Congrats on the calling mom! I know you will be a great RS President there are lots of sisters who need your help and love!

This week went by soo fast! I know I say that every week but it’s so true. This week we had one baptism of Glaydis. Her mom Marta was baptized about 4 weeks ago. She bore her testimony after and it was really sweet. It was a huge answer to pray that she got baptized this Saturday. She wasn’t sure she wanted to do it. Because in her culture if she were to marry she would have to join the church of her husband.  She has a boyfriend or something and she wanted to talk to him first.  We were dying all day Thursday waiting to meet with her. She called us as we were leaving a visit to tell us she decided she wanted to be baptized on Saturday! Turns out things with the boyfriend weren’t so serious and the Spirit confirmed to her this was the right decision!

Well yesterday was crazy! When we left the house to pick up our investigators it was not raining. It looked like it would rain but we figured it would later in the afternoon. Ahhh no.  As we were leaving the investigators’ house it started to rain then it started to pour. Normally we would take a bus but there was no bus! So we walked all the way to church and got drenched! And guess who had a white shirt on? I did! Luckily Marta lent me her scarf so I could cover up. The members looked at us like they had never seen someone wet before. Well lesson learned. Always bring umbrella and jacket.

Also this week my comp helped make 5 huge cakes for a quincenerra but for a boy. Weird.  We went on Monday to do a test. I thought it was interesting she didn’t use a recipe. I think that may be why I don’t usually enjoy the desserts here. Not everyone follows a recipe. Well we went back on Friday to make the official cakes. This time the member made the cake and my comp was just going to add the milk because it was tres leches and then decorate. All I’m gonna say is that they looked like something from one of Dad’s favorite websites. If you know what I  mean. But the Sister was happy with them and they tasted good so I guess it didn’t really matter.

I finished reading Our Heritage this morning. It’s a little book about the history of the church. It was really interesting. The early members of the church sacrificed so much so we could have the gospel. I don’t think they could ever imagine how big the church would become. I am so grateful to them and their sacrifices. Reading about their examples really makes me want to be better to live my testimony and to do everything I can to build the Kingdom of God.

Have a great week I love you all!
