Buenas Tardes!
How are things? Things here are super good.
Today we have an activity in the mission home with the Hermanas we are over so
it should pretty fun.
Did you hear about the earthquake that happened
here on Friday? It was 6.5, it was pretty exciting. We were in a member’s house
waiting to eat dinner when it started to shake. The member, Hermana Wendy,
started to freak out and her husband tried to calm her down by telling everyone
to calm down. The shake died down for a second but came back even stronger.
Wendy ran out the door with her son and we followed her. I walked out into the
street but Hermano Boris yelled at me to come in because the cables were
shaking so were the cars. My comp leaned on the aquarium from keeping it from
falling. Then the quake stopped and we all went inside. I felt another little
shake but didn’t say anything because Hermana Wendy was freaking out. But then there
was another shake that was super hard. Hermana Wendy didn’t feel anything
because she was so hysterical. Around 2 in the morning there were more quakes
but not too bad and strangely enough last night we felt another one around 3
am. It was a pretty exciting weekend. There wasn’t really any damage here; a
few of our things fell in the house. A few houses fell but they were old adobe
houses. It was interesting to see everyone’s reactions. Some people thought it
was the end of the world and were crying our for God’s mercy in the middle of
the street. Others knew it was something normal that would pass. What I got out
of it was that we never know what can happen and we should always be spiritually
and temporally prepared. We talked with one investigador who really has no
personal peace in her life, she is about 40 and really doesn’t see how her life
can change. The gospel brings us peace in hard times. We know Heavenly Father
has a plan and that all of the trials we receive really are for our good. We
know that all will be well.
I should mention the miracles that have been
happening in this amazing area, Last Sunday we walked past a man who greeted us
and I thought we should turn around and talk to him. So we turned around but he
was way ahead of us. He realized we wanted to talk to him and hurried into his
house. We thought we should wait a few minutes before we knocked on the door so
it wouldn’t seen so obvious that we followed him. So we decided to contact some
of his neighbors. The down side to this neighborhood is that everyone has a
speaker they talk through so they don’t come to the door. Well we rang the bell
to a house and a girl answered; she said she couldn’t come to the door but that
we could come back Tuesday. But unlike most people she sounded sincere. We went
back Tuesday and her mom answered and said her daughter wasn’t there. But her daughter
had been going to church a year ago in another ward and that she would like us
to talk to her daughter because she was better when she went to church. We went
back a few days later to meet Marsela she is 15 and had been going to church
for a year in Minerva and went to EFY and is not baptized. She wanted to go to
church here but was nervous because she didn’t know anyone. Holy blessing that
we contacted her house. Also Eduaurdo and Lucia, a couple we are teaching, has
decided to be baptized and married on the 28th! We are super excited!
Love you all! And hope you are having fun in
Italy! Hope you have fun with the Cochrans!
Love,
Hermana Davies
