Buenos Tardes!
Ahh so many things to tell you today!
Well the first is a sad thing....I have changes! I couldn’t believe it! I
really thought I was going to stay in my area with Hermana Lopez till February.
When our district leader called last night didn’t believe him. We share our
area with him and his comp and they are both leaving the area. Which is weird.
So Hermana Lopez who has four weeks here will have to a [train] a new comp and
have to show the new Elders around. She’s a little nervous to be left in an
area she doesn’t know very well. But I know she will do a great job. Not to
mention she has 6 baptisms planned for this month. Two this Saturday, 1 the
21st, and 3 for the 28th. Bahh I cant believe I have changes. But I’m sure good
things are to come. Also I will no longer be a Hermana Zone Leader. Which I am
ok with, it was a great opportunity to be able to serve the other hermanas.
Today was probably one of the best P-days
I have had in the mission. Because after a year of trying to get permission to
go to La Laguna Chicaval, we finally got to go. We woke up at 4:30 to meet with
our zone at 5:30. We met up with the Elders in our area to share a taxi to the
steak center. Because there are no buses that early. We met up with the zone
and a member drove us to the mountain where the lake is. Then we took a pick up
to the top of the mountain, and then hiked down to the lake. It was a very
beautiful place. The water was really clear and you can see the reflection of
the trees in the lake. We were also the only ones there, so it was pretty cool.
A lot of Mayans go there to do rituals and there were a lot of flowers and
burnt things in the sand. As we were leaving, a group came and they started to
sing/cry and prerform their ritual. I think some of them are a cross of Mayans
and evanglicos because they had a Bible. Then we got to hike all the way back
up the mountain with a bunch of stairs. I think everyone was dead when we got
to the top. I guess that’s what happens when you are in the city for about 8
months. But I have a feeling I’m going back to Momos which is straight up the mountains...but
I will let you know next week.
Mayde and Isabel are getting baptized
this Saturday. They are really interesting to teach because they wanted to be
baptized before we had taught them many things. And it’s interesting because
they wanted to be baptized and had their date but still weren’t sure that this
was Christ’s church. But last week we really focused on resolving their doubts.
Brenda also told us this week she wanted to be baptized. On Monday I was
setting up the DVD when she asked me if there was a baptism this weekend. I
said “no,” but then asked her if she had decided to be baptized when she told
us “yes!” During fast and testimony meeting she felt the Spirit confirm to her as
she listened to the members bear their testimonies she need to be
baptized.
We are also teaching 3 kids of a less
active family. Their parents really want to make sure they are ready before
they are baptized. So we started a scripture reading challenge with them. The
older kids are in charge of the younger kids to make sure they all are ready.
When we went to see if they had read they were so prepared. They all told us
what they had learned from the introduction to the Book of Mormon. They are
super smart.
I can’t believe I am leaving Jardines, I
have been here so long! I love this area, my investigators, converts and the
members. I have learned so much in this area. Today we drove through San Mateo
on our way to the laguna. I saw that area so differently and realized that I
work so differently as a missionary. Also I am a different missionary and
person as a whole. I think I trust God more; I also have more faith in Him. I have
a feeling I am going to an area that is more pueblo and where they don’t all
speak Spanish. It will for sure be a challenge. I love the quote: Work like
everything depends on you. And pray like everything depends on God.
Love you all,
Hermana Davies
