Buenas Tardes,
How is everybody? Things here are great!
Today I’m writing to you in the afternoon because in the morning we had our
thanksgiving lunch. It wasn’t really lunch....I guess that’s what happens when
the Elders plan things. We had roasted chicken with bread...yum! I made the
chocolate cream pie and an Elder made pumpkin pie. The chocolate cream turned
out pretty good. I got a little nervous because it started to clump or
something when it started to thicken. But I prayed and it turned out! God doesn’t
only answer prayers about important things but also pie!
This week was really good. We went to
the temple with Brenda; she is 15; she is currently living with a member
family. She is going to church and to the activities. She wants to be baptized
but she is still deciding. Both of her parents have passed on. I think the
temple really meant a lot to her.
We wanted to go to the temple with Meyde
and her kids. But she wasn’t able to go because of a family situation. Her
husband drinks and when he does he is violent. They decided to stay in a hotel
that night and because of everything that was going down she decided it was
best not to go. She came with us to stake conference yesterday. Conference was
so good. It was broadcasted from SLC. Elder Scott spoke. He speaks Spanish so
it wasn’t translated. The way he speaks in Spanish is the same as he does in English.
He is such a good speaker, when he speaks you feel like he is talking to you,
you can also feel the pure love of Christ radiate from him. He spoke about how
men need to treat women. He quoted President Hinckley who said that God
will hold men accountable for every tear they make a woman shed. It was a heartbreaking
moment to see the hurt in Meyde as she listened to Elder Scott talk about how
her husband should love her. But also really sweet to be able to comfort her
and even sweeter to see her children comfort her.
The Saturday adult session was all about
member missionary work. I took notes on who went from our ward so we can work
with them later. Hopefully they felt the spirit of missionary work and are
inspired to share the gospel. We decided to work with one of the families who
went. (They remind me of our family when we were little.) We wanted them to invite
a family we are teaching to a Family Home Evening. They also mentioned they met
a less active family who lives in their neighborhood. Later that night they
called us and Hermano Reyes asked me “Hermana how does 2 baptisms sound?” I
said “amazing.” They had visited the less active family and they want their
kids to be baptized. I love member missionary work.
In stake conference Elder Scott said we
should try to develop our divine attributes. I think that means being more
loving...charitable...and more like Christ. That’s something I am trying to
work on. I really love people who never tear people down...who are always
positive. People who are like our Savior. I am trying to be more like Him. I
know that this is Christ’s church and His gospel. I know that when we come unto
Him that we will be filled and we will have eternal joy.
Have a great week! Feliz Oracion de
Gracias!
Les Amo!
Hermana Davies
