Still having power and water problems

11 March 2014

Buenas Tardes. How are y'all? I’m great. Today we had a zone activity we played volleyball. I’m not in any way athletic. I think volleyball is the only sport I’m slightly good at. It’s kind of weird. I’m lucky if I hit the ball and if I do I’m lucky if it was a good hit. But every once in awhile I have a glorious moment.

So we are still here without light and water. The light comes on at 10 at night and shuts off around five. So we don’t have cold showers. But we do have to come home early. Or we have someone walk us home. The water situation is a little bit more complicated. We have water in the shower because of the deposite. It was able to fill up twice last week. But not everyone here is so lucky. The government has been giving out water in water trucks. But the water isn’t very clean so you can’t use it to cook or bath. We helped some people last week haul water. The people here are so patient. No one really complains about the situation. Which is good but at the same time not so much because no one puts pressure on the government or light company to do anything.

But we did have a real miracle last week. The water truck helps but it really isn’t enough water and it doesn’t get to everyone especially the people who live far out or in the villages. But on Wednesday it rained. And it rained super hard and hailed. For it to rain at this time of year is super rare. It’s like snow in July. We were with Karina when it started to rain. We ran around filling up her pila (its the washing basin thing and holds a lot of water) and filling up whatever else could hold water. It was crazy. But the rain really blessed so many people.

We have been teaching Daniel he is 11 and his mom is less active. He really didn’t have too much interest in getting baptized. But this week we went to visit him. He lives pretty far out and it was late so we had to get back to town because there was no light. When we got to his house he wasn’t there so we waited around for about a half hour. But as we left he was coming home with his mom. We couldn’t stay but he was excited to tell us he wanted to be baptized. It’s amazing to see how God can change all hearts even a little boy’s. Milton, who is 11, he is part of the Barrios family,he has been helping us by being Daniel’s friend at church. Yesterday we were in the chapel in the afternoon and they were both there for the primary choir practice. I’m so proud of them.

Some of the best moments in the mission have been seeing converts progress. Especially by serving and being missionaries. I think a lot of people think they aren’t ready. But really their testimonies are so strong and they feel the difference of their life before they were baptized and after. One day Milton said to me “I am so much happier then I was before I was baptized.”

I know this is Christ’s church. I know that when we follow Him and live his teachings our lives will be so much better. They will be so much fuller and happier.

I love you all,

Hermana Davies
