Familia,
How are y’all? Things here are great as usual. This week has
been kind of crazy. Hermana Martinez goes home tomorrow so this week was filled
with crazy things.
We now have light but we still don’t have water. The light
came on last night. This week we ran out of water. Hermano Parley and the
bishop brought us water. We mainly use it for the bathroom. The members here
have been so nice and have to let us shower in their homes. One Hermana gets
water from the mountain so they always have water. Hermana Lupita has a well
but the water doesn’t come in the showerhead. So she heats the water then mixes
it with cold water and you stand in the shower and shower with a bucket.
I think the most interesting experience I had was on
Thursday. I got all motivated to start exercising again. So I got up and did my
kick boxing DVD for about 30 and when I finished I got in the shower and there
was a little drizzle of water. Which lasted about 2 min and went out when I
still had shampoo in my hair. Hermana Martinez filled up a bowl with drinking
water and I finished my shower with that, we pretty much complained the whole morning
about the water situation. Until both of us read the same article in the
Liahona in our personal studies. It was about one of the missions that was affected
by the earthquake in Japan. The article talked about how mindful the Lord was
of them during that time. I felt pretty bad about complaining. Really, not
having water isn’t the end of the world. And that God would take care of us and
wouldn’t let us suffer too much.
Saturday was a great day. We visited Santa in the morning. [This
is the disabled sister that they help bathe. KLD] Then as we were coming into
town we were told that we had to be in the chapel in 15 min for a training meeting
with Elder Morales (an Area 70 authority). Umm yea we looked great and smelled
even better (we wash Santa with soap made from pigs). We got there 15 min late
as he was asking the zone leaders why none of the missionaries showed up......
But he talked to us about what a blessing it is in our lives to serve in this
zone. And that is an honor to serve here. And that if we take advantage of
every moment our time here will shape us for the rest of our lives. He also
said that every hour we should be progressing. He said monotony is not of God,
it is from Satan. He stressed the importance of reading the New Testament and
the parts from Christ’s life and his teachings. And we only accept Christ into
our lives when we apply his teachings and they are working in our lives. The
Spirit was so strong as he spoke to us. I felt a real responsiblity for my
calling.
After the conference a member invited us to eat turtle
eggs....raw. I ate it so fast I don’t know what it tasted like.
Then at 6, Daniel was baptized. Luckily there was water in
the church’s deposite so we were able to fill the font. The lights went out
before the baptism so it was in the dark. When it was the time for the ordinance
they lit the font with two flood lights. It was cool to see a baptism like
that. Daniel is 11 and his baptism was a true miracle. His mom has been
inactive for year. And one night walking out in the mountains we found her and
were able to start teaching her and her son again. I feel so blessed to be a
part of their lives.
This work is so special. It is real. There are miracles
every day. I feel so blessed to be a part of it. My last change starts today.
It's crazy. But I really liked what Elder Morales said about how we progress
every hour of every day if we aren’t progressing then we are going in the opposite
direction.
Love you lots!
Hermana Davies
