A rainy day in the street

Buenas Tardes!

Hola! How is everyone doing? Things are fantastic here! I have officially ended my training! And I will be training starting tomorrow! It’s crazy! I’m excited to train but I also am super nervous! I’m not sure if I know enough to train, but I guess other people think I do. All of the Hermanas I came with are going to train and a few of the elders. I am sad that Hermana Suliafu will be leaving. We get along really well and have had a lot of funny times. I guess it’s time to figure out how to be funny in Spanish.....I’m pretty sure my new comp will be Latina.

This week we have been teaching “I”; she is a single mom with a little boy and girl. She is really sweet, and had lots of good questions. She actually has had a lot of contact with missionaries before so hopefully things will be different this time.

Well Saturday was a day I will never forget. The Elders decided they wanted to set up a table in Centro to contact new people. Almost all of the members discouraged us from doing because so many Elders have tried it in the past and had no success. But we decided to do it anyway. So we had a big poster that said “I’m a Mormon and I believe this”....and we had a bunch of papers with our beliefs printed on it. Then we had pamphlets and books of Mormon to pass out. Oh, and we had a giant picture of a Guatemalan family and little papers with the family and the temple on the front with the Articles of Faith inside. And we had a popcorn machine to draw in people. Well Saturday came and we had everything ready to go set up...when it started to rain. It hasn’t rained in two months and it rained the day of our activity. We decided to do it anyway because the Elders had put so much work into getting all the stuff. Oh my gosh, it rained so hard we were soaked! Luckily we bought some clear trash bags and were able to cover the papers so they didn’t get soaked. I wouldn’t say it was the most successful proselyting activity but we did have some good laughs. And I think we found one girl who might be positive. So I would say it was well worth our time.

Today we had a good pday. We made lunch with the other Hermanas in our district. Hermana Raya from Mexico made tacos which were delish and Hermana Suliafu and I made pancakes with lechera and strawberries for dessert it was all super tasty.

This week I listened to a talk from Elder Holland. He talked about why the mission is so hard and why it’s not suppose to be easy. The mission is hard because salvation was never easy. Christ’s atonement was so intense we can’t even comprehend it. But we have to feel just a little of that suffering. And even more then our investigators, we have to rely on the atonement during this time. I know training will be a new challenge for me and it will definitely push me to work harder. But I am so grateful to be here and to have this opportunity to share the gospel. Because I know it’s true and I know we need it.

Love you lots!

Hermana Davies

We had an idea to help us understand better what life is like for Christina. So, starting this week, Christina will answer 5 questions that we ask her. Here’s the first installment:

- What do you eat most days?
Tortillas! Rice beans chicken.

- What is your favorite Guatemalan dish?
Hmmm I really like when they make fried bananas with cream on top served with beans and scrambled eggs. That is common to eat for dinner.

- What is your least favorite?
Caldo de res. Hands down. It’s a vegetable soup which is fine but is has big chunks of beef in it which gives the soup a weird flavor. The beef is hard to chew not my fav.

- Describe where you buy your groceries.
Usually we buy them on Tuesday after our zone meeting at a store called Delco. That has a lot of American things there like chips and peanut butter. We don’t usually buy a lot of groceries cause we eat with the members.

- What is in your refrigerator right now?
Right now...half a can of beans, a bag of mayo, a two month old bag of hot dogs, ham, and two slices of  American cheese, we also have eggs but we don’t keep those in the fridge.

**Christina posted some great photos this week. I'm on the road and am having problems with the available computer.  I'll try to post them later. KLD
